~Dolphin~
At first, everything was foggy. Then, things began to get clearer. Dark, dank streets surrounded me. This had to be the City. There was nothing else it could be. The Academy wasn't like this. From what I knew, this part of the city had a high crime level, very dangerous. But I felt safe, which was strange.
A man and a woman were each holding one of my hands. The woman looked down at me and said, "Did you like the movie, Emily?"
Emily? The name rings a bell but my name isn't Emily, it's Dolphin. And what movie?
Suddenly I was tired. I yawned.
"Relax Laurine, you've asked her that enough times and you know the answer is
Sitting here, day after day. Or was it night after night? It wasn't like she could tell. There was no knowing what time it was from her prison. It was a suffocating box, a small room consumed by darkness. The reed ceiling allowed for no light at all and little fresh air. She had not felt a breeze or seen light for two months.
She clenched a fist. How much longer could she stand this place? She herself was surprised she was still sane. Somehow the thoughts in her head had not driven her to insanity. The reason they had not was a mystery. It's all your fault, you're going to sit here and rot for the rest of your days. No way, they
Finally, Mia felt it was time. It felt right. It had been long enough.
"Let's go," she said softly.
Luke, who had been leaning against the wall, pushed himself up and stretched.
"Any particular plan?"
"I'll cut a hole in the roof, hoist myself up, check to make sure it's clear, then I'll help you up, and we'll run for it."
"Sounds decent enough."
They moved quickly. Luke turned himself into a living ladder, and Mia climbed up onto his shoulders. She started sawing through the reeds, making as little noise as possible.
"This is going to take a couple minutes, think
Their escape was not complete. Mia listened closely. There it was, the heavy pounding of the guards' footsteps on the stairs.
"Get ready…" Mia whispered.
The door shot open like a rocket, and Mia grabbed a hold of it to stop it from slamming into her. The guards poured out, five, ten, fifteen. Mia smiled grimly. They really didn't want them getting out. They all halted in the courtyard, staring about looking for the two fugitives. The doorway was clear.
Mia grabbed Luke and jumped from their hiding place behind the door, and shoving them both into the passageway. She pulled the door closed behind her an
I stand imprisoned
Trapped behind bars
I hear your screams
Your desperate cries
The agony you feel
I share
I am helpless
Trapped behind bars
I weep in pain
At my inability
To help you
I can't take it
It hurts me too much
The sound of your screams
Echoes in my mind
And I stand here
Imprisoned behind bars
I share your agony
Because I care
I am unable to
Drive away your pain
I can only stand
Helpless
In the face of your torture
And it laughs at me
As I fall
